This housing complex was built in the 60's for the famous Expo 67. In the middle of the Saint-Laurence River in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, the view is amaising.
The architecte, Moshs Safdie (1938- ) developed this project in continuity with his univercity research project. The whole idea was prefabrication. His concept ment to have every units (blocks) the same with 2 or 3 model variations. This would of redused building cost. Sadly, the simplicity of his concept was never achived bot lots of it worked. All the plumbing and wiering is pre placed in the floor slab of a unit. Then all units are assembled like lego. Exterior half covered footbridge make the "corridors" to the condominium. Ov course, there are elevators. Another part of the concept was to have minimum view on your neibourgh below when you are on your terrace. To have visited it, I would say it's more or less true. But better than nothing.
The way it works, on a resident point of view. Well, you buy a minimum of 2 units and can have up to four units making one condominium. I have visited the condo of
Today, the concrete is getting prety old and the rusted reenforcement steel bars are craking the concrete here and there..
Like the Stadium, I dont know when they are gonna stop trying to "repair" it.
